The Troph
About The Troph
The Troph came into being in Melbourne in the early 1990’s when a few keen horse racing tipsters decided to start a competition to see who was the best tipster. A trophy was made consisting of a wooden plinth, a thoroughbreds training shoe and a grease nipple from an 1800’s steam engine. The Troph is also known as The Susan HayAward after Susan Hayward who has tirelessly kept record of all selections, results and statistics over the years. The first competition was held in 1994. The rules are simple, a series consists of ten race meetings. Susan selects the meeting, tipsters pick a horse to win in each race a day before the meeting. Three points for a win, two points for second and one point for third. After 10 meetings and approximately 80/90 races the winner is awarded The Troph. A new series then begins. All those who participate in The Troph are encouraged to take it with them on their travels and to photograph it with people of note.
